The church
Why do we use the name church of Christ?
Jesus built His church, not with brick and mortar, but with His blood. The blood stained message of the cross is the same as salvation’s message. And, simply, when men responded to the gospel of Jesus Christ, the power of God unto salvation, they simply became a member of Christ body (Romans 1:16; 16:16; Acts 2:47). When the people came together they were referred to as a church or collective body that met together for worship, edification, exhortation, and social reasons (Acts 20:7; Hebrews 10:23-25; I Corinthians 16:1, 2; Jude 12 et al). This body was called a church of Christ or church of God and simply refers to the people saved by Christ’s blood that assemble together for the ultimate glory and praise of the Father. These people are also a people who evangelize the world by the same gospel hoping to bring others to Christ by the same salvation extended.
Therefore, the churches of Christ are independently, self governing bodies of people that meet at a local areas to assemble and worship God in spirit and truth (John 4:23, 24; Hebrews 10:25), be edified to better do good works and ultimately evangelize the world. We are a people that love the brotherhood of the churches of Christ because our fellowship is with the Father through the Son established by the Holy Spirit’s inspired Word (II Timothy 3:16, 17; I Peter 2:17). No man can change this except he alter God’s plan and transgress in so doing according to II John 9-11. All that is sound and faithful we cherish. All that is not, according to the authority of Christ, we loathe (Ephesians 5:11; Colossians 3:16, 17). Herein is how the churches of Christ, world wide, have their fellowship one with another.
