How is one added to the Lord's church?
Select another article in this series [Who What When &  Where Why How Salvation]

The New Testament epistles establish Jesus’ Words as true. When, after the cross, the apostles received their “great commission” to go into the world and preach the saving message of the gospel, this they did from the Pentecost of the book of Acts chapter two. Those that responded to their message or doctrine were added to the church of Christ (Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15, 16; Acts 2:). This process of becoming a member of the Lord’s body/church is simply achieved by obedient faith as you can read in the book of Acts (also c.f., Romans 16:25, 26). It is not something we can do by ourselves, but by His grace He saves us and adds us to His church (Acts 2:38, 47; Ephesians 2:8; I Peter 3:21). However, not without obedience are we saved by grace (Hebrews 5:8).

If you are interested in attending, being a member, or simply just being a Christian, we would encourage you to find your local church of Christ and indeed assemble with the saints here on earth (Philippians 1:1). “There is one body…” according to the Bible (Ephesians 4:4).
